Product overview
Luperox® 533M65 can be used for the solution polymerization of acrylic resins. It is a very suitable initiator for the production of high solid acrylic coatings. According to the decomposition reaction of tert-amyl peroxides, Luperox® 533M65 forms more selective radicals than with di-tert-butyl peroxides (like Luperox® DI). The more selective a radical is, the less is the tendency for H-abstraction. A resin polymerized with Luperox® 533M65 has therefore a lower molecular weight and a narrower molecular weight distribution than a resin polymerized with di-tert-butyl peroxides (like Luperox® DI). As a result a resin produced with Luperox® 533M65 E has a lower viscosity at the same solid content. So it is possible to get a higher solid content at the same viscosity with Luperox® 533M65 compared to di-tert-butyl peroxides (like Luperox® DI). Luperox® 533M65 is a good initiator for high polymerization temperature and offers an advantage not only in the field of high solid coatings but also for acrylic powder coatings.
